I previous shared some photos from Katie’s session on Facebook, but thought I’d add those, along with some additional from my blog. We had a huge storm blow in during our first session, so added a second session a little later in the fall. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Wildflower Wednesday

A couple of these are not technically wildflowers as they are flowers I planted in my pot garden on the front porch, but thought you would enjoy them. Spring and summer are in the air and I hope you are loving this beautiful weather.

Maumee Bay Sleigh Festival

In February I traveled to Ohio to photograph the Maumee Bay Sleigh Festival. Who would have thought in a million years that there would not be snow on the ground at the beginning of February, but with this unusual winter weather we have had, that is exactly what happened. Despite the lack of snow, these folks proudly brought their beautiful antique sleighs to display, and those with buggies and carts brought their teams and enjoyed the warm weather. I had a great time and met a lot of wonderful people, so while I was disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to photograph sleighs and teams in the snow, I was glad I was there.

This is Buttons. He is just such a happy soul and seems to just love his job pulling this cart.

I couldn’t help myself and had to add some old fashioned Photoshop affects to some of these photos.

I loved this hat, and when I found out she made it herself, I was amazed.

I loved this mare. She was such a hard worker and had the most amazing trot.

This is an old fashioned heater to help keep your feet warm while traveling by sleigh in the cold winter weather.

These ladies were fantastic as you can see by their smiles, and their dog was loving every minute of his ride.

Brook and Bridget with Prime and Flame – Senior Portrait Session

This fall I enjoyed photographing twin sisters, Brook and Bridget, together with their horses for the senior pictures. Unless I get lost on the way to the barn (unfortunately, it does sometimes happen), I am almost always early to a session because I like to look around and get some ideas in my head, as well as meet everyone, so we are not hurried and have a relaxed, fun session.

When I arrived for Brook and Bridget’s session, they were grabbing a quick bite to eat. There were curling irons plugged in in both the club room and the barn and assorted make-up bags strewn about. The horses, on the other hand were spotless, immaculately groomed and photo ready. Right then I knew these young ladies were true horsewomen.

They immediately put me at ease. They had such an easy, calm way about them, were so sweet, and I couldn’t see any sister rivelry between them at all. They wanted most of their photos together, and when I asked if each wanted some photos that were unique to them, they looked at each other and said no. If I had a sister, I would want to have the relationship with her that Brook and Bridget have with each other.

Love these Purple Flowers

Sometimes I just love to go out in the evening when the sun is setting and photograph the beautiful wildflowers, grasses and nature we enjoy here in Michigan. While I truly love photographing people, animals and horses, sometimes there is nothing like photographing something that isn’t running around and that you don’t have to worry about ears, eyes and expressions. It allows me to focus more on light and composition…and it is just so darn beautiful.

Here are some photos I took last summer to enjoy this winter when things were gray and cold. I’m not sure what is the name of the flower/weed. Notice how the different angles make the flower look so different that you find yourself going back to the previous photos just to confirm that they are the same flower. The background orb in the last photo is the moon coming up. My plan is to try and post a few every Wednesday.

Lindsay and Nella – Senior Portrait Session

When the sun rose on the Saturday we had scheduled for Lindsay’s senior pictures, it was cold, windy and very cloudy. Not the weather you would hope for when photographing a very important senior portrait session. As the day went on, the sun came out and the weather improved greatly, though it remained a bit cold. When I arrived at the session, Lindsay and her Mom met me at the car with warm smiles and I knew we were going to have a great time and weather would not be an issue. Lindsay was amazing. Her smile just lights up the photos, and the bond she has with Nella is obvious. Here are a few photos from our session.

Bloomin Sunday

Over the past few years I have been taking pictures of our local wildflowers and pretty much whatever flower is in front of me when I have my camera in hand. I love flowers. Their beauty always gives me a pick me up, so I thought I’d share some of these photos from time to time in hopes they will add a little beauty to your day. Here’s one of my potted porch plants from last year. Can you tell this is one of my favorite colors?

Sheila, Ladybug and Lizzie

When Sheila contacted me for a portrait session, one of the things in which she was most interested was some photos that reflected the love she and her horse, Ladybug have for each other. Well, when I got there, I realized it would be next to impossible to take any photos of the two of them that didn’t reflect that love, and as soon as I saw her with her dog, Lizzie, I saw the same relationship.

We had so much fun that our session flew by and the light was gone before I was ready to quit.
